Beetles

I see their shining armor
Valiant little knights
That fly all around;
Twenty-three thousand
Seven-hundred
Insectile legions
Darting around With shielded wings.
Their glories are in the common tongue—
Ladybird, Weevil, Stag, Hercules,
Whirligig, Titan, Bombardier, Bess
Firefly, Auger, Glowworm, Scarab—
A magnificent plentitude
Dressed in their glorious elytra,
Dazzling little wonders that speed all around
Ever present
A grand procession that will
Go oft overlooked
They shall perform
Always
For those who will
Take the time to look closer
